Supplementary teaching in the Pomak villages, Foundation of Thracian Art and Tradition, Thrace

In 2016, the Foundation of Thracian Art and Tradition established a tutoring school in the village of Sminthi, in Xanthi, Thrace. This daily educational programme offers elementary, secondary and high school students in need the opportunity to improve their Greek and receive any assistance they may need with schoolwork through supplementary teaching. Under the general coordinator, Ralou Vlachopoulou, qualified teachers practising innovative teaching methods work with students, employing experiential approaches, promoting cross-curricular studies and encouraging active student involvement in class. Through this programme, students have access to a broader curriculum including art, culture and science as well as environmental education. Through focused approaches and projects, classes promote cooperation, creativity and self-motivation. Today, with the help of the A. G. Leventis Foundation, the programme boasts excellent results, showing students improving their school grades, using oral and written Greek more effectively and enriching their knowledge on various areas.
