The Restoration works at Temple of Zeus in Olympia, 21 March 2013

In November 2012, the German Archaeological Institute of Athens concluded the second phase of the restoration works at the Temple of Zeus in Ancient Olympia with the support of the A. G. Leventis Foundation. The restoration, which concentrated on the western opisthodomos of the Temple, now allows visitors to fully appreciate the three-dimensionality of this important monument; one of the most characteristic extant examples of the Doric rhythm. To mark the culmination of the project, the Foundation and the 7th Ephorate of Pre-historic and Classical antiquities hosted a celebration on 21st of March 2013, in Ancient Olympia, at the site of the Temple which once housed the chryselephantine statue of Zeus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
