Integrated Actions for the Conservation & Management of Natura 2000 Sites, Species, Habitats & Ecosystems in Greece

This LIFE-IP 4 NATURA programme is the largest such project targeting to the Greek wildlife and includes actions covering wide range of parameters related with biodiversity conservation, from politics and social participation to economics and science. It is an 8-year project (2017-2025) with beneficiaries from the entire spectrum of environmental management (regional administration, universities, environmental NGOs), under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Energy. With regards to avian fauna the project entails the creation of a national Action Plan for Griffon, Cinereous and Bearded Vulture, making it the first Action Plan for bird species implemented in Greece. It will thus contribute decisively to the improvement of the conservation status of these three species in Greece, which have suffered dramatic population decline in the recent decades. Several preparatory actions are currently under course, such as population monitoring and monitoring via satellite transmitters.
