The Student Conference on Conservation Science, University of Cambridge
The 2016 Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS) welcomed 190 student delegates from 59 countries to Cambridge. Alongside plenary talks from senior figures in the conservation world and practical workshops, students shared findings from their work in a number of talks and posters ranging from human-wildlife conflict, habitat loss, and biodiversity in disturbed landscapes to the conservation of top predators. For many of the participating students, the conference was the first opportunity to present their work to an international audience, which offered them increased confidence in their own work and a greater vision for how conservation science can tackle the global crisis of wildlife. The conference also ran short training courses, sponsored by the University, for the students to attend to build expertise relevant to social science, statistics and using GIS for conservation.
