Exhibition, Assyria to Iberia at the Dawn of the Classical Age, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
The A. G. Leventis Foundation provided a grant towards the catalogue for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s landmark exhibition Assyria to Iberia at the Dawn of the Classical Age (September 2014 – January 2015). Assyria to Iberia was organized by Joan Aruz, Curator in Charge of the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Art, and examined the connections between three major cultural markers of the period: the rise of the Assyrian empire; Phoenician expansion across the Mediterranean; and intense exchanges resulting in the significant impact of Near Eastern art and culture throughout the Mediterranean. The catalogue incorporates the scholarship of almost one hundred scholars worldwide, representing the latest research on the cultural contact and artistic exchange that define the art of the period. The 448-page publication features 446 colour illustrations, resulting in a beautiful, informative, and lasting resource for scholars and the wider public alike.
