Completion and renovation study, Athens Conservatoire
Founded in 1871, the Athens Conservatoire – the oldest educational institution for music and theatre in Greece – is distinguished for its contribution to musical and theatrical education in almost 150 years of operation. Numerous personalities have studied or taught within its walls, such as Dimitri Mitropoulos, Nikos Skalkottas, Maria Callas, Gina Bachauer, Mikis Theodorakis, Aimilios Veakis, Dimitri Rontiris and Dimitri Myrat, among others. In 2015, the Foundation sponsored the architectural and technical studies for the Athens Conservatoire’s programme of extensive architectural improvements to the emblematic building in which it is housed since 1976, at the corner of Vassileos Gheorgiou B’ and Rigillis streets. Designed by the late Ioannis Despotopoulos, the impressive building was only partially completed. The project for its completion and modernization has been financed through NSRF public funds and with the support of numerous private donors.
